UF Health is seeking a full-time Adult Respiratory Therapist to join our Healthcare & Medical Services team in Gainesville, Florida. As a key member of our interdisciplinary care team in a leading academic medical center, you will deliver high-quality, evidence-based respiratory care to adult patients across acute and critical care settings. Working in a fast-paced hospital environment, you will perform comprehensive respiratory assessments, implement physician-ordered therapies, and collaborate closely with nurses, physicians, and other clinicians to optimize patient outcomes.
In this role, you will manage and monitor adult patients requiring a full range of respiratory support, including oxygen therapy, aerosol and nebulizer treatments, bronchial hygiene therapies, and non-invasive and invasive mechanical ventilation. You will be responsible for ventilator setup, ongoing adjustment, troubleshooting, and participation in weaning protocols, using clinical data and arterial blood gas results to guide your decisions. You will respond to respiratory emergencies and rapid responses, provide airway support during codes, and contribute to the stabilization of critically ill patients.
Your work will include obtaining and interpreting arterial blood gases, documenting all care in the electronic medical record, and following established protocols and best practices for respiratory therapy. You will educate patients and families on respiratory conditions, equipment use, and home-care considerations to support safe transitions of care. As part of UF Health’s collaborative and inclusive culture, you will participate in interdisciplinary rounds, share observations with the team, and help shape individualized care plans that reflect each patient’s needs and goals.
UF Health emphasizes innovation, continuous learning, and professional development. As an Adult Respiratory Therapist here, you will have the opportunity to engage with the latest respiratory care practices, technologies, and research initiatives typical of a comprehensive academic health center. You will be supported in maintaining and expanding your clinical competencies through ongoing education, in-service training, and exposure to complex cases that foster growth.
This position is best suited for a detail-oriented, compassionate clinician who thrives in a hospital-based, on-site environment and is committed to patient-centered care. Strong critical thinking skills, effective communication, and the ability to remain calm and decisive in high-acuity situations are essential. In return, UF Health offers a supportive work culture that values diversity, teamwork, and career advancement, along with a competitive benefits package that typically includes medical, dental, vision, life insurance, and retirement savings options.
By joining UF Health as a full-time Adult Respiratory Therapist, you will contribute directly to our mission of delivering exceptional care, advancing medical knowledge, and training the next generation of healthcare professionals, while building a rewarding and meaningful career in respiratory therapy.
